Design and experimental study of a high-efficiency high-voltage power supply for travelling wave tube

Abstract: This paper presents a half-bridge LLC resonant multistage high voltage converter circuit for 6~18 GHz 50 W ultra-small microwave power module. Through the design of half-bridge LLC resonant converter and the research of improved feedback loop based on type 3 phase compensator, the low-voltage 48 V is boosted to the 4-channel high voltage required by the cathode of the traveling wave tube and the three-stage step-down collector, and the overall high voltage efficiency is improved from 92% to 95% compared with the MPMs of the same power level. The experimental test efficiency reaches 95% in the range of input voltage 44~52 V, and the minimum efficiency exceeds 92%. The change of cathode voltage output is less than 1 V when the power supply switches between no load and full load.
